HOW DO I GET TESTED?

Physicians or other medical professionals may order PAULA’S Test and have a sample drawn in their office or at another licensed lab drawing location.

As with other commonly used laboratory blood tests, a small tube of blood is taken.  This tube, called a “SST” or a serum separator tube, is one of the most common types of blood collection tubes.

The blood sample is sent to our laboratory in a special collection kit shipping container along with a requisition form filled in by your medical provider.  The sample must be sent using our collection kit, following the procedures for sample submission.  Samples received under improper conditions or that do not include  the required requisition forms cannot be tested.

WHO CAN ORDER THE TEST?

Only a licensed medical provider can order the test.  A provider must contact us in advance so we can establish an account and provide them with requisition forms and collection kits.  There is no cost to the physician for establishing an account.   The requisition form must be signed by a licensed medical professional.

WHERE DO I GET TESTED?

Blood samples may be taken either at your physician’s office or at any licensed lab draw station, including lab offices operated by other Clinical Reference Laboratories.  Clinical Reference Laboratories that do not have an established draw agreement with Genesys Biolabs, may charge the patient a “draw fee” for providing the service of drawing your blood sample.

DO I NEED TO PREPARE FOR  GETTING THE TEST?

No.  Unlike many other blood tests, no special preparation is required.  You do not need to fast in order to have your sample taken (although it is ok to be fasting if you are getting other blood work done).

I AM READY TO GET TESTED.  WHAT STEPS TO I NEED TO FOLLOW?

When you are ready to be tested, follow these steps:

1. Confirm with your medical provider that they have the necessary supplies on hand to submit your test to Genesys Biolabs.  If they do not have any PAULA’s Test collection kits and requisition forms, please have the office contact us so we can arrange to send them supplies.

2. Visit your medical provider’s office to have the blood sample drawn.

3. Check back with your physician in approximately 2 weeks for your results.

WHAT IF MY PHYSICIAN DOES NOT DRAW BLOOD SAMPLES IN THE OFFICE?

Many physicians use outside clinical reference labs to draw their patient’s blood tests.  If your physician wishes to have you tested, they may send you to an outside clinical reference laboratory to have your blood drawn.  If we do not have a “draw agreement” with this laboratory company, you may be asked to pay a small draw fee.  If your physician requires you to have your blood drawn at one of these laboratory locations, you will be given  a PAULA’s Test collection kit and requisition paperwork to take to have your sample drawn.  Every kit comes with complete instructions but if the lab has any questions they may contact our customer service department.

CAN I HAVE A COLLECTION KIT SENT DIRECTLY TO ME TO BRING TO MY DOCTOR’S OFFICE?

No.  Collection kits and requisition forms can only be sent to a licensed medical provider or a licensed clinical reference laboratory office.  You can request that a collection kit be sent to your physician.

CAN I GET TESTED AT GENESYS BIOLABS?

No.  Genesys Biolabs is not a public clinical reference lab.  We do not have the staff or facilities to draw patient samples at our lab.
